Office 365 Safe Links Impact on Abenity Engagement Emails

Modified on Tue, 4 May, 2021 at 4:33 PM

If your organization uses Office 365 as your company's email service, you may have their "Safe Links" feature enabled. This can lead to your discount program members being automatically unsubscribed from Abenity engagement emails, which will result in decreased engagement in your discount program and can impact Abenity's email service providers.

The good news is that there is a way around this!

Abenity's email provider requires one-click unsubscribe links to be placed in our email campaigns. This ensures that it's easy for your members to unsubscribe from our emails if they ever want to stop receiving them.

However, email systems that preview every link in an email, like Office 365's ATP Safe Links, have the unfortunate side-effect of unsubscribing all campaign recipients from Abenity's mailing list.

Abenity's guidance to avoid this is to create a Transport rule in Office 365 to bypass Safe Links.

  1. Create a new mail flow rule.

  2. Click more options.

  3. Apply this rule if….Senders IP address is in the range…"your relay static ip"

  4. Do the following…Set the message header…

     X-MS-Exchange-Organization-SkipSafeLinksProcessing = 1

Abenity sends email campaigns using MailChimp, whose IP ranges are 205.201.128.0/20 and 198.2.128.0/18.
